Ajay fished through the banana market like he was in search of gold. His fingers ran through each of the curves that embarked from the stem. His eyes were closed as he felt the epicarp of those yellow gold while trying to analyze the mesocarp and endocarp layers of the fruit.
The whole street was lined up with shops that had various types of bananas, stacked up in bamboo baskets. At an aerial view, it might look like rings of yellow and green streaks piled up on each other, while for Ajay, the aroma was amusing and exhilarating at the same time.
He was happily touching each rack of bananas, feeling each peel as he was touching a newborn baby so he would not transfer much heat from his palms. Before he touched them, he gave a nice stare at the basket, then smiled at them and then ran his eyeballs frivolously to pick one fruit to feel.
As Ajay got intoxicated with the aroma of the bananas, he suddenly hid between two shops as he heard some footsteps at the entrance and was holding his breath but his eyes kept wandering all over the remaining shops in search of his perfect banana.
Slowly the footsteps and few voices were heard at a close proximity as Ajay finally saw a banana at the corner shop that was placed in a broken bamboo basket. With a long jump, he landed right before the basket and the banana was making him salivate already. While he was quickly driving away the fruit flies happily rested on the peel and was trying to remove the banana from the stem, people around him started throwing stones and were ready to hit him.
Ajay was faster and wiser to outbeat their speed. He grabbed his banana close to his heart and jumped up on the tallest of the trees. The shopkeepers were disappointed again that they couldn’t catch him. One of them shouted, ‘Hey Monkey, one day I will catch and make a soup out of you.’ Ajay heard the other shopkeepers laugh but he was focussed on his breakfast and knew well that the shopkeeper was throwing a challenge beyond his might.
After a while, Ajay smiled at them as he saw them selling the bananas that were ripe in unnatural ways for their profit as they looked back at him like he was a thief. With the gratification of finding a good banana amidst the many unfortunate ones that were driven away from the natural journey, he closed his eyes and drifted off to a good nap.
